Dealing with stress so that you feel that you have some control over it gives you a better chance of dealing with stress in the future. That's the conclusion of a 2006 study by the National Institute of Health. Feeling in control of stress appears to alter the circuitry in the brain, so that the effects of later uncontrollable stress are lessened.
