One reason for the growing number of people with type 2 diabetes may be a widespread attitude about exercise. Researchers writing in a 2007 issue of Diabetes Care found that many Americans don't think it's abnormal to be inactive. Only 39 percent of adults with type 2 diabetes were active, compared with 58 percent of adults who didn't have the disease. Many studies have shown that an active lifestyle can help prevent or control diabetes.
