What is amoxicillin, clarithromycin, lansoprazole administration pack?

AMOXICILLIN; CLARITHROMYCIN; LANSOPRAZOLE (Prevpac®) is a combination of medications used to treat intestinal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection. The Prevpac® 'kit' contains Trimox® (amoxicillin capsules), Biaxin® (clarithromycin tablets), and Prevacid® (lansoprazole capsules) packaged together. Generic Prevpac® therapy kits are not available.

What should my health care professional know before I take Prevpac®?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• asthma

• eczema

• kidney or liver disease

• leukemia

• mononucleosis

• stomach problems (especially colitis)

• virus infection

• other chronic illness

• an unusual or allergic reaction to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, lansoprazole, other antibiotics, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

• pregnant or trying to get pregnant

• breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine?

Each "dose" of Prevpac® contains four pills: one pink and black capsule (Prevacid®), two maroon and light-pink capsules (Trimox®) and one yellow tablet (Biaxin®). Each dose should be taken twice per day before eating. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow capsules and tablets whole with a drink of water; do not crush or chew. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

• itraconazole

• ketoconazole

• levomethadyl

• medicines for HIV-infection or AIDS

• medicines for treating heart rhythm problems

• methotrexate

• modafinil

• paricalcitol

• phenytoin

• red yeast rice

• sildenafil

• some medicines for migraine (example: dihydroergotamine or ergotamine)

• some medicines for psychosis, depression, anxiety or other mental problems

• soy isoflavones

• sparfloxacin

• some 'statin'-type medicines for treating high cholesterol (examples: atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin)

• sucralfate

• tacrolimus

• terfenadine

• theophylline

• verapamil

• voriconazole

• warfarin

• zonisamide

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What should I watch for while taking Prevpac®?

It can take several days of therapy with Prevpac® before your stomach pains improve. Check with your prescriber or health care professional if your condition does not improve, or if it gets worse.

Call your prescriber or health care professional as soon as you can if you get a fever, watery diarrhea, stomach pain, or vomiting. These could be symptoms of a more serious illness. Do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber for advice.

If you get a skin rash, do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber or health care professional for advice.

Birth control pills (contraceptive pills) may not work properly while you are taking this medicine. Use an extra method of birth control for at least one month.

Do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol; these increase irritation of your stomach.

If you are going to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are taking Prevpac®.

What side effects may I notice from taking Prevpac®?

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:

• difficulty breathing, wheezing

• dark yellow or brown urine

• dizziness

• fever or chills, sore throat

• increased thirst

• pain or difficulty passing urine

• redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth

• seizures (convulsions)

• skin rash, itching

• stomach pain or cramps

• swollen joints

• severe or watery diarrhea

• unusual bleeding or bruising

• unusual weakness or tiredness

• vomiting

• yellowing of the eyes or skin

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

• changes in taste

• diarrhea

• headache

• loss of appetite

• nausea

• stomach gas or heartburn

Where can I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Protect from light and moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
